Bosheston farm £6pppn. Wales hidden gem van friendly campsite

The terms “hidden gem” are often overused on the socials like tik tok snd Instagram. A van-friendly campsite with stunning views and amenities. Those drone shots showing off flat pitches and electric hook-ups. A quaint on-site shop offering fresh foods at no doubt higher than Waitrose prices , but omitting the cost of said park-up, often ranging from £25 upwards per night for a “hidden gem” that others have posted.

The cost of a van friendly park up is a hotly contested issue right now and some might see £25 up a night good value. But what if I told you I went to a site, nestled right on the gorgeous Pembrokeshire coast, a stunning beach 10 minutes walk away, cold shower facilities, recycling, washing facilities, fire pit and bar b cue friendly that’s just £6 per person per night. Kids are £4 and when I went the farmer did us a deal on the price.

I’m really trying here not to sound like one of those infomercials to persuade you to go, but on the spirit of being honest, when I went it was the first gorgeously sunny day of the year. And after what seemed an achingly long, cold, damp winter, this campout was needed.

Bosheston farm campsite resides a 15 minutes walk away drive away from Pembroke with decent access for campervans up to motorhomes. being out I. The back of beyond there was a bistro and pub en route to the site Which was busy enough given the time of year on a Saturday afternoon.

Speaking of which there 3 sites in the area so keep a look out for the farm campsite. The area is popular with ramblers and campers Judi g by the outside seating of the bistro but the prices aren’t for the feint of heat. £14 for a panini is steep even with the cost of living going up.

Anyway, I digress. Pulling onto the site, it’s a case of finding a spot, parking up, and that’s it. The farmer running things does his rounds in the morning and evening and was thoroughly pleasant to deal with. There is one area that’s for pre-bookings, but there’s no need to worry about space.

On my trip on field was open easilt coping with 60 vehicles and plenty of space between everyone. The farmer said he opens up more fields when it’s busy and his intent had been opening on the first bank holiday of the year but people turned up so he opened up.

The field we were on was a welcoming flat, flatter than some roadside park-ups, and with some manoeuvring, I was parked up, deck chair out, sampling one of the many non-alcoholic beers I’ve been reviewing.

lets talk facilities. I did give it the ideallic sell at the start of this post and there wasn’t a lie there but let’s go realitic

Toilets. Clean and tidy, no smell despite being near the elan point to dispose of waste. They aren’t going to win awards but I’ve seen a lot worse at sites I’ve paid more for. They were clean, flushed properly but not all of them had lights so remember a touch at night along with toilet roll.

Showers. It’s a concerted port a loo with a cold water tap. Not the best but for a rinse off after the beach it’s a “that’ll do” situation

Washing facilities. A huge sink next to a barn is what you get. remember the price. It does it job and was clean

Water. Plenty of cold water taps up near the barn.

bins and recycling. Massive wheelie bins are on site and they were overflowing. We were told they hadn’t been collected yet as they hadn’t planned to be open. Good news is they didn’t smell and despite excess waste it was tidy and the farmer was ensuring it was managed best as possible.

Food and drink. Apparently there is a coffee waggon on the weekend but not whe. We were there. There’s no shop for at least 20 minutes and I really would have liked to see some local milk or eggs for sale on site or in the village.

Surrounding noise. None. Nada. You aren’t getting any road noise at all. A moo from cows a minute of 2 down the road is all you get, when still you’ll hear the sounds of bosheston beach.

The beach like I said is 10-15 minutes away but it’s not on the flat. It’s a great walk down but on the way up you won’t be pushing peaks or wanting to carry loads. Theres 2 paths down, a quick sandy route or a more scenic way on grass, signposted nicely and if you’re heading downwards, you’ll end up at the sea eventually.

There is a car park with a cafe a few mins away to make that easier

When there it’s simply gorgeous. this trip was out of season so no commenta on how mad it might get there during peak. this is more a paddling and swimming beach than one for the surfers it this could be different at other seasons.

After a decent amount of time sitting on the beach letting the world go by , hiking back to the campsite we were greeted with the sight of a slight evening haze descending over the top of the site, smoke rising up from Barbies and fire pits being lit in unisok for the evening’s food, the most wondrous waft of the first season’s outdoor cooking going on.

The farmer was going his rounds offering a free fire pit to some so long as a bag of logs was purchased and I thought that was a nice little touch As the sun set and stomachs were fed.

Park 4 night had mentioned some groups being noisy And yes there was a group of baseball cap wearing 30+ types wearing skater gear in their no doubt expensive split screen t4’s talking into the night and the occasional guitar which honestly didn’t go too late but that’s part and parcel of being on a campsite. Not everything is perfect In The world all the time.

There was no strife by and depart by signs on site so we were packed up to go by 11. as I wwws going about a recalled run I bumped into him to say what time do we have to be out by. His response was do t worry. When you’re ready so no rush. Absolutely refreshing meaning you can leave a bit later to avoid the traffic.

I hope this doesn’t get abused by types who take advantage of someone being reasonable.

Overall. Faculties are there yet incredibly basic but work. It’s quiet, near a beach and did I mention that it’s only £6 per person per night for a flat pitch with generous spacing! If you need something less basic this won’t be for you but if it’s a kids, family event where you want a bargain, honestly give it a go!
